Is there any limitation on how many images Phototheca can hold totally?
Phototheca Trial has a limit of 5,000 images total in the Library.
If I have a network drive that contains 1000’s of photos in folders on a network that is populated by many people, is there a way of the program on each machine to constantly being updated by what others put in?
Phototheca has the feature Live Album that works in the next way: you create a Live Album and specify a list of sources(folders) that are used to populate the album.
Does Phototheca support XMP editing/filtering?
Yes, Phototheca supports XMP editing and filtering what relates to keywords and descriptions. When you tag a photo with keywords in Phototheca, keywords are written into XMP and IPTC metadata sections of a JPEG file.
Can Phototheca read RAW formats or video files?
Phototheca can read both RAW and video formats.
Can Phototheca help transfer my photos from iPhoto and keep all events, albums, faces, etc. ?
Phototheca can not import photos from iPhoto directly. However, if you copy photos from iPhoto to Windows PC and run the import in Phototheca – it will create events automatically, creating one event per one folder or one event per one day, depending on the selected option. The result of this import can be pretty close to your original setup in iPhoto and some adjustments like split and merge could be done after.
Can I use Phototheca on Mac or iPad?
Phototheca is Windows and PC only.
Can I transfer photos from Picasa to Phototheca?
Will I be able to keep photos in Picasa while I try Phototheca?
What is the difference between Event, Album, Smart Album, and Live Album?
- An Event is a collection of photos that takes a period in time when it happened and has a date of start and date of the end. For instance, photos of a birthday party or a vacation. An Event can be displayed on the Timeline.
Where are photos placed after import? Does Phototheca create copies or move imported photos? How to get photos back from Phototheca?
Your photos remain at their original locations on local or network drives after being imported into Phototheca. Phototheca does not create copies of photos and does not move photos.
Where are the tags(keywords) of photos are stored? Does Phototheca use JPEG metadata, IPTC, or XMP?
When you apply a tag(keyword) to a file, Phototheca saves tags(keywords) in both two sections of JPEG file: IPTC and XMP sections of JPEG metadata inside the JPEG file. This means tags are kept when you copy files and tags can be read by any software what supports IPTC standard like Photoshop, Aperture, Lightroom, Picasa, Windows Photo Live Gallery, and various online photo sharing sites.
Can I share access to the photo library over a home network?
If I have a desktop and a laptop and want to work with a photo library from both computers, can Phototheca do that?
Why is “no file” written on my pictures? What does it mean?
When photos are imported into Phototheca, the program does not copy files and remembers their locations only. And photos can reside on the removable media that can be disconnected. Then, if you disconnect a media with photos, Phototheca can not access files and shows the special mark on every file.
How to synchronize multiple Phototheca instances over a network?
Though Phototheca has no multi-user capabilities to work with the same library over a network — you still can utilize a few features to have the workaround and particularly imitate network access to a single library.
